This is a tattoo on Lauren from Swords. She only got it recently and her reason behind it was the phoenix symbolises rebirth and a change in her life.  But does she worry about the repercussions in later life?

“No, not at all. It’s in a very discreet place (lower side, above her hip) so clothes easily cover it. The colours are amazing in it I think and it makes a great focal point on a night out to start talking to people. Someone might notice it on a night out and come over and start chatting to me about it.”

“It was done in Galway one weekend, I can’t remember the name of the store though” she laughs. “My friends have some as well, usually on their lower back or on their hip or wrist. Nothing too big or flashy though. They can look cheap if you overdo it in certain areas and then dress to show them off.”

So how did reactions  differ between her mates and her parents? “Well, my parents didn’t really mind it, it’s not anything too over the top or trashy. My mum actually thought it was very tasteful for a tattoo. I think she may even be a secret fan!”
